Note: So far, I only have seen a few movies from Hirokazu Kore-eda and he has already become a favorite director of mine. Maborosi is yet another hit from Hirokazu Kore-ed for me because this movie was fantastic. This movie is both beautiful and depressing at the same time. You can tell that Hirokazu Kore-eda was inspired by Yasujiro Ozu when making this movie because this movie has a similar vibe to his other movies such as Late Spring (1949), and Tokyo Story (1953) in my opinion. I love the story in this movie because the movie feels very poetic. This movie has a wonderful cast of characters that feel very believable by showing the struggles that they have to deal with after a death in the family.
Maborosi has wonderful pacing because the movie went by so quickly that I was surprised that it was almost 2 hours long. I found myself being so emotionally invested with the story that the movie flew by like it was nothing. The cinematography from Masao Nakabori (Ultra Seven) is absolutely stunning in my opinion. Every scene in this movie had me staring at the screen without moving an inch of my body. Hirokazu Kore-eda can make a movie about paint drying and it will still be stunning to watch.
Overall, Maborosi is a fantastic movie and I'm glad that I watched it. This movie is not for everyone because not everyone will like slow-moving movies. I highly recommend this movie if you enjoy Japanese cinema or art-house movies.

Note: I actually never saw this movie until now despite me being a huge fan of Italian horror movies. I always love the poster for this movie growing up because it looks so awesome. The best way to watch the movie at the moment is by importing the Blu-Ray from 88 Films. The Blu-Ray from 88 Films is region free and the quality for it is solid. After watching this movie for the first time, I thought it was pretty good. Eyeball is not the best movie from Umberto Lenzi, but it's still a fun movie nevertheless.
I really like how colorful this movie can be at times. You get plenty of colorful red lighting that helps make the movie feel more atmospheric. Almost every colorful shot in this movie is stunning to look at. You get plenty of bloody and gory kills that still look pretty good in my opinion. It is pretty nasty to see someone's eye being ripped out. Just like any other Italian grindhouse movie, you get plenty of sleazy moments and it does not disappoint. Umberto Lenzi did a good job of keeping the audience intrigued with the mystery of who is the main killer in the movie. The movie actually surprises me when they finally revealed who the main killer was.
Bruno Nicolai (Sabata) does a great job of creating a creepy and memorable music score for the movie. Everyone did a good job with their performances in my opinion. Ines Pellegrini (Arabian Nights) was easily the best actress in the entire movie and I'm glad that her character was never killed off. She is probably the first black character not to die in a giallo movie (unless I'm forgetting one) which is super cool. I do wish that she was the main character in the movie instead because I found the other characters to be boring. The pacing for this movie sucked and it was not until after 30 minutes into the movie when the movie started to get good in my opinion.
Overall, Eyeball is not a bad movie and I do recommend it if you like Italian horror movies or Grindhouse movies.
