Nintendo Quest
Date: 7/15/2019 Viewed: Amazon Prime First Viewing Note: I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this documentary because I watched it after having a long day of hard work and I wanted to watch something that could be fun. The idea behind this documentary could have been really cool and awesome, but it wasn't. This documentary feels like one big YouTube video than an actual documentary that people donated $40,000 for. This could have been a cool documentary about collecting video games and the culture impact behind it. Instead, we get a documentary about some guy named Jay (The lead role in this documentary) who wants to own every Nintendo game because he wants to complete his own childhood dream. Jay comes off as someone who is selfish and super depress than someone who is going out on a fun adventure (which is something that this documentary advertise itself as). I do admit it was cool to see the different stores that exist for retro games. However, this documentary gets way worse as time goes on. We get some back story on Jay's past and how he hated his dad in the middle of the documentary out of nowhere. He was happy that his dad was dead because he viewed him as a Tyrant. I get it that not everyone gets along with their parents, but Jay's reasons for hating his dad comes off as selfish and gross. His father never likes him playing video games and watching Star Wars. There is probably more back story between Jay and his father that we don't know about, but this documentary never talks about it other than his dad disapprove of his nerdy hobbies. That scene of him talking about his father made me so angry that I almost turn off this stupid documentary. Jay does not even meet his goal, and ends up buying the remaining games on eBay a few months later after his quest ended. If he just buys the remaining games after not reaching his goal, what was the point of his quest in the first place? There was no risk to this quest when he just buys the remaining games. How are viewers supposed to relate to this loser if there was no risk? This whole quest was a compete waste of time when you have no risk, sacrifice or compromise. Overall, I hated this documentary and I never felt this angry when typing a review in a very long time. I'm nice enough to give this a 1/5 and not a .5/5 because you did had some cool locations that they visited too. Everything else about this documentary is awful and gross. Avoid this at all cost!!!

The Cable Guy
Date: 7/10/2019 Viewed: IMDB TV Re-watch Note: This is still my favorite comedy movie from Jim Carrey (The Truma Show is more of a drama than a comedy if you ask me). I love seeing Jim Carrey playing a more darker and less family friendly character compare to The Mask and Ace Ventura at the time. The movie has a lot of great funny and memorable moments that always me laugh hard. I also enjoy the other cast of characters in this movie because they have a lot of personality and are memorable. Overall, this is a fun dark comedy that is worth checking out.

Date: 7/8/2019 Viewed: Amazon Prime Re-watch Note: I haven't seen this movie in over 20 years since it was on late night cable television. This movie is still great and does a good job on being a satire of the 1950s suburban lifestyle. This movie has a dark and surreal atmosphere to it that I really like a lot. The dream sequences in this movie are my favorite part of this movie because they are so strange and creepy to watch. I also like all of the characters and the acting in this movie is pretty good. Overall, this is a good underrated gem from the 1980s that is worth checking out.

Let the Corpses Tan
Note: I kept hearing some interesting things about this movie and decided to check it out on Amazon Prime. I know nothing about this movie and went into it blind. I really like this movie a lot and I'm glad that I went into it without knowing anything about it. The story is simple, but the movie has a very good subtext. The movie deals with greed and the role of the artist in society. There is even a deeper message about the nature of supernatural good and evil. I also love how colorful this movie because the movie has a very trippy and retro 70s feeling to it. The movie has an atmosphere to it that remind me a lot from Dario Argento and Alejandro Jodorowsky. My only issue with this movie was that it did felt rather slow at times. Overall, I really love this movie and I want to check the other movies from Hรฉlรจne Cattet and Bruno Forzani. Not everyone will like this movie, but fans of art house movies and acid westerns will probably enjoy it.

High Life
Date: 7/6/2019 Viewed: Amazon Prime Rental First Viewing Note: I have looked forward to watching this movie for a while now after hearing about it earlier this year. I finally got the chance to see this movie and I loved it! This is a great dark atmospheric sci-fi movie that has good acting and great imagery. I love the story and the themes that this movie has. The movie did a great job on making you feel alone in the middle of nowhere in Outer Space. It's a slow burn, but I love these slow burn movies because I can get myself sucked into the movie's atmosphere. I'm glad that these type of movies are still being made even if they are not mainstream films. Overall, I highly recommend this movie.

"Good list as always. They had a showing of A Taxi Driver at Otakon last year, but I missed out on the screening for it."

The Substitute
Date: 6/30/2019 Viewed: Tubi TV Re-Watch Note: I haven't seen this movie since 1997 and I still enjoy this movie. I do like the action, story and characters in this movie even though this movie is far from being great. This movie is not trying to be the next Die Hard when it comes to action movie and it is not meant to be. Mr. Smith is a cool teacher and a bad ass mercenary that knows how to kick some major ass. Even though this movie is meant to be a dumb movie, I do like that there is somewhat of a social commentary on today's youth and the dangerous school life that some parts of the United States has. Overall, The Substitute is a fun action movie from the mid 90s that is worth watching with some pop corn.

Empire Records
Date: 6/29/2019 Viewed: Netflix Re-watch Note: This movie is always a fun nostalgic movie from my childhood that I always like to revisit once and a while. It's not a great or amazing movie, but I always love the characters in this movie and the humor always makes me laugh. The memorable cast of characters is the best thing about the movie in my opinion. Watching this movie makes me feel nostalgic because music stores in this movie used to exist. Now in 2019, music and video stores are nearly gone. When I was a kid, I used to go to music and video stores all the time in the 90s. This movie is now a time capsule of the pre-streaming era. I still think the movie is worth a watch if you like music or if you want to see what stores used to be like before Amazon, Netflix, Ebay and other Internet related stuff took over.

In the Mouth of Madness
Date: 6/26/2019 Viewed: Blu-Ray Re-watch Note: This movie is John Carpenter's last great classic in my opinion and the movie gets better with each viewing. I love how this movie is smart and surreal because this movie really has you questioning what is really real or not? Movies that make the viewers have their own individual interpretations and perspectives on the story are the type of movies that I really love the most. This movie also has awesome special effects and good acting as well. I can't think anything else wrong with the movie other some of the dialogue was a bit weak at times. Overall, this movie is awesome and will make you keep asking what happened and why that happened. I highly recommend this movie.
